People Pleasing Poem

Each "yes" and nod is a mask that I wear,
Seeking approval, my joy isn't there.
Yet still, my heart longs for others' embrace,
With a smile, I affirm, hiding my true face.

If I ever hurt your heart,
A thousand apologies I send to you.
If I ever overstep my part,
Here I am, to say I'm sorry too.

But here I am, feeling hurt inside,
People-pleasing was the role I played.
Is this the reason for my heartache?
For all the times I've tried to please.

So tell me, oh self,
Which is which?
From yes to no,
From the vast ocean to the soles of my feet.
