Living In A World Without Stigma

Image
Have you ever imagine living in a world without stigma?  Well, it is not impossible for that to happen.    So, what is stigma? The definition of stigma is actually a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or a person. It can make a person feel ashamed of what they are going through such as mental illness, physical illness and etc. In a world of mental health, most people tend to label someone  who is suffering from mental health as crazy, lazy, weak, stupid and many more. This is how mental health stigma sounds like. These types of words should not be use to label someone who is struggling with their mental health.  The outcome of labelling someone can possibly bring their motivation down making them feeling weak and unmotivated. If we could end the stigma of mental health, patients who is struggling with mental illness would have the courage to seek professional help without the fear of being stigmatized by anyone. This Is Me

I used to be a person who is on top of the world. My grades were fine and I have many friends during primary school. I was also very close to the school counsellor. I used to be very happy and cheerful.  At that time, people did not really understand why I was very happy. They thought I was crazy for being hyperactive. My counsellor advised me to be like others. I had this habit of pulling my hair. Boys in my school kept calling me names like " pulau ", " botak " and etc. I was very embarrassed. I kept answering them back. But, the more I answer back, the more they will call me names. My self-esteem went down and I kept calling myself a stupid person, useless, ugly, and thought that life was not worth living. I was 13 at that time. I went to the school counsellor and told t

Warrior

Image
What comes to your mind when you hear the word " warrior "? You must be wondering about a soldier being a warrior fighting for our beloved country.   Well, that is not the case. What I am going to mention here is about being a warrior for your mental health.  Being a warrior and fighting off your demons is not as easy as I take note about. It can be really scary and stressful to be in this position. Everyday thoughts will keep coming to you and haunt you saying that you are not good enough. That you are a failure. These thoughts that you are having can bring down your self-esteem.  If these thoughts are uncontrolled, they can bring you down to the bottomless of the pit making you so down and alone. In that pit, you will obtain lots of negative thoughts. It will keep pressing onto you until you give up. Let's make this general, to give up is to give up living which many people in this world now is facing this situation.  Though it can be really difficult to manage all of t

The Truth Behind Mental Health .

Image
It lies behind one truth and oneself. Not many people would understand how and when it begins. Till today, mental health still remains a stigma to this world. It takes a lot of effort to make one person understand about mental health.  We need to take care of our mental health just as we take care of our physical health. Mental health should not be a taboo as we grow to talk about it more openly and to accept it just as we accept ourselves to have physical illnesses.  There are a few words that have been frequently used to describe someone who is suffering from mental illnesses such as maniac, crazy, stupid, lazy and etc. These words should not be used to label someone with mental illnesses. In doing so, we might not be able to break the stigma of it.  However, let us not lose hope as we come together to take part in increasing the awareness of mental health. A few ways for doing so is by being there for them when they are in their darkest days. Accompanying them to see a psychiatrist
